Doreen Garten Works

Doreen Garten

Doreen Garten started her silversmith exploration about five years ago. She wants to create innovative wearable designs that are both contemporary and unique.

She strives to create each piece that tells a story. Special attention is given to light, movement and the energy expressed in each pieces’ simple lines.

Every piece is planned visually to make them as simple, beautiful, and engaging as possible.

There are occasions when she abandons all convention where elements are chosen based on the visual effect they will have within the overall composition of the piece.

It is not unusual to incorporate something simple such as an amber cabochon next to a fine diamond or a humble mother of pearl nestled within impressively heavy 18 karat gold.  In fact, even nontraditional materials like wood and paper are occasionally incorporated into these unique works of wearable art.

She especially likes unconventional shaped gemstones such as trillion, custom cut or rough stones to include in her ieces. Better yet, she frequently experiments with obscure or unusual gemstones in the pursuit of avant-garde color combinations.

As a child, in exasperation, her mother exclaimed that she had too vivid of an imagination. It was not a compliment at the time. However, today, Doreen’s vivid imagination allows her to explore, experiment, visualize!

She is just beginning this wonderful world of exploration of jewelry making!
