Kay Primer

Kay was born in the Midwest, but early on she felt drawn to the Southwest.  She has lived in New Mexico and Texas most of her adult life.

Kay was always involved in art in one medium or another, but when she discovered sculpting, that was her “thing”.  She didn’t start sculpting until the early 1990s.  “I love the feel of clay and of metal.  Also, the color of molten bronze is a glorious color.  My formal training in sculpting was working 6 months with sculptor, Tom Knapp.  I was fortunate to learn the entire process from him from the clay to the finished product.”

Her subjects vary from wildlife to Native American and western and of course her grandchildren who have all been models.  She is represented by the Art League Gallery in New Braunfels, TX and Weems Gallery in Albuquerque, NM.
She has shown her work in exhibitions in New York & Dallas.  Currently she exhibits in shows in Texas and throughout the Southwest.

“I guess I am inspired by life.  Seeing children at play or beautiful animals makes me want to create them in bronze.  I hope that what causes an emotional response in me will have the same effect on others.”

She has been awarded Best of Media in the Echoes Show, the Art in Bloom show in New Braunfels, TX and the Las Cruces Art Festival.

She lives & works in San Marcos, TX and Bonita Canyon, NM.
